Modelling and calculating longitudinal strength, vibrations and specific details in the structure; you do not shy away from this. At Feadship and De Voogt Naval Architects, we see Finite Element Methods (FEM) as a technically advanced field of knowledge. It is an important part of the core of our engineering process and the construction of our unique yachts. Obviously precision in your work is one of the requirements.

Sr. FEM Engineer is a challenging and versatile position. Your analyses provide insight into where our structures can be optimized. You know exactly what you are talking about when you present calculations and simulation results with your team. As part of the FEM knowledge centre, you will work simultaneously on several projects. You like sharing the specific knowledge required within this position with your colleagues. You are bursting with theoretical and practical expertise. In combination with your experience and practical knowledge, you possess all the necessary properties to increase our engineering expertise.

Our Sr. Engineer is not solely sitting behind a computer. As a team player and point of contact for (partial) FEM work packages, you are in constant dialogue with stakeholders about progress and technical issues. The FEM Specialist, Project Engineers and Project Managers Design like to hear your vision and advise on FEM and the specific projects you are working on. Your solutions not only provide stronger structures, but also a strong position for Feadship in a competitive market.

What you will be doing with us:

  • Calculating, checking and adjusting ship constructions;
  • Executing and/or guiding daily project-based activities;
  • Attending technical meetings;
  • Supporting your colleagues in the FEM knowledge centre;
  • Assisting in the development and testing of tools and methodologies;
  • Acting as responsible and first point of contact for (partial) FEM work packages.

We ask

  • BSc / MSc thinking and working level, including relevant degree;
  • More than 4 years of relevant work experience as an FEM / Structural Engineer, it’s an advantage if you have Lead Engineer experience;
  • Knowledge of ship structures is imperative, also you have experience with rules & regulations such as LR, DNV or BV;
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD software (NX, Inventor, Solidworks);
  • Excellent knowledge of static and dynamic FEM analysis;
  • Experience with commercial packages (Ansys, NASTRAN, Femap, RFEM);
  • Preferably programming knowledge for tool development (VBA, Python);
  • Fluent in English (written & verbal), Dutch is an advantage.
